FAQs

  • We hold services at every first Sunday of the month, September to June, at the Keizersgrachtkerk, Keizersgracht 566 in Amsterdam.

From Amsterdam Centraal Station, take tram 2, 11 or 12 for a 10 minute ride to the Keizersgracht stop. The Keizersgrachtkerk is a 5 minute walk from Leidseplein.

We congregate in the break room of the church, which can be entered through the side door identifiable with our NUUF logo.

    The church is wheelchair accessible.

  • Services vary according to the theme. We do not have a fixed minister but instead invite guest speakers to lead the service every month.

A service format can vary widely, from an interactive storytelling session to a maypole dance or lecture about social justice. We do loosely structure every service according to the Unitarian Universalist tradition of chalice lighting and usually make space for the ritual of Joys and Concerns.

A service lasts up to an hour, after which we have coffee and tea and the opportunity to chat and connect.

After that, some of us always go out for dinner and drinks. You are welcome to join us for any or all of the above!

  • Everyone is welcome, whether you are a believer of anything or nothing at all! We are a liberal and non dogmatic community open to any who are curious, accepting, and open to learning themselves, whether you join us for a day, month or years.

Within our congregation everyone is exploring their own philosophy and relationship with religion. We accept and celebrate everyone else’s interpretations, feelings and journeys to find meaning.

  • We currently do not have a children’s group. We have had children’s and youth groups in the past, but the current congregation is too small for one at the moment. We do have a side room with toys and colouring books for children, who are free to join our service as well! Just let someone on the welcoming committee know when you arrive and they can help you out.

If you have kids and/or are interested in setting up a children’s group, do let a board member know !

  • UU has a strong history of social activism. We donate to social causes in our city and have participated in women’s marches and climate marches.

We would love to start a more permanent social action committee, anyone who has an idea to lead or take part in one, talk to any of our board members and we can get you started!
